The yellow, which served as the background, becomes the subject here, set against an uncompromising red.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eThe skull explores yellow in all its forms, from lemon to buttercup, warmed with oranges and deepened with browns around the edges. The forehead is lit with white and cream, the temples and chin turn anise green, and the cheekbones are crossed with magenta and violet. Then come the eye sockets, outlined in black and filled with blues: azure, turquoise, lavender, violet. This is the only cool area of the painting, and the eye goes straight there. Lower down, a wide row of white teeth: this skull laughs with all its bricks.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eAround it, the red is a constructed monochrome. Bricks, plates, arches, and hemispheres in the same shade are piled up at different heights, studs visible, and it is the cast shadows that give it its design. In the middle of the forehead, a tile decorated with a pink and violet pattern is placed like a jewel. Small star tiles punctuate the skull, two yellow stars shine on the chin, and tiny black steering wheels slip along the edge.
