Harissart: French Visual Artists Inspired by Pop Art

Harissart is an artist duo composed of Yoan Tanuji and Abdel Benkhedidja (1982), who met during their university studies.

Abdel, a graduate of a prestigious business school, decided to pursue a career in investment banking. After spending six years behind screens in trading rooms in New York, London, and then Paris, he wanted to give meaning to his work and launched his startup in the field of sustainable development. A few years later, he sold his company to fully devote himself to his burning passion for art. Harissart was born from the passion of these two longtime friends. Their creations are largely inspired by their teenage memories and more generally by the 1990s.

Yoan, a professional magician, has always been a collector of objects from the pop art universe and works by renowned artists. His profession allows him to meet people from all walks of life and experience special moments in exceptional places where magic seems real! The creation of illusions and managing his business naturally led him to blend work and pleasure daily. His desire to create original works and share them materializes with Harissart.

The themes of money, currency, and luxury also hold a central place in Harissart's universe. Their works denounce their power, often parody them, and sometimes even ridicule them. Drawing inspiration from popular iconography, they repurpose, modernize, and personalize objects from the past to evoke emotion, a feeling, revive a good memory, or create a new one... "Because what we do may not be art, but we try..."
