This original work by Popik stages a spectacular interplay between comics and sculpture. A copy of issue number 1 of "Fantastici Quattro" (Fantastic Four in Italian) appears to literally explode under the impact of a massive, embossed fist, which bursts from the paper as if piercing a barrier between fiction and reality. The fist represents The Thing , one of the iconic members of the Fantastic Four, with its characteristic rocky texture. The staging plays on the effect of trompe-l'oeil and dynamic destruction, giving the impression that the superhero is stepping out of the comic book and into our world. This hybrid creation, a cross between pop art and sculpture, pays homage to the world of comics by instilling an impression of movement and raw energy, faithful to the explosive spirit of superhero comics.
