Flowers Power

Flowers Power holds a piece of international fashion history. The work was born from a meeting: Guido Zappoli. met a designer, a collaborator of his friend Adriano, who spent 35 years handcrafting flowers for the most prestigious haute couture houses. Her large drawers overflowed with unique samples: prototypes, collector’s items, designs never produced in series. Fascinated by this treasure, the artist selected these creations one by one to give them a second life on canvas.

The result is a lush garden, an explosion of colors, shapes, and textures that covers the entire surface and even spills beyond the frame. Several hundred flowers mingle here: camellias, roses, poppies, peonies, hibiscus, and pansies. They are not placed at random. The artist grouped them into color zones that echo one another and blend together. On the left, bold reds and burgundies. At the top, ochres and yellows. In the upper right, deep blues, turquoises, and greens. In the lower right, dusty pinks, fuchsias, and lilacs. At the bottom, a soft wave of ivory and white. At the center, like the heart of the work, a vortex of black flowers opens up, a velvety void that gives depth and dimension to everything around it.

The materials are exceptionally rich: smooth and nappa leather, suede, patent leather, leopard and python prints, metallic gold leaf, frayed tulle, braided straw, sequins, beads, and embroidered stamens. Each flower bears witness to exceptional craftsmanship, with sculpted petals, carefully worked edges, and intricately detailed centers. Together, they form a vibrant bas-relief where the light catches every fold.

These materials and pieces are no longer available today, making Flowers Power unique and impossible to reproduce. Its title is a nod to the famous slogan of the 1960s. This time, the flower itself becomes a manifesto: fragments of haute couture destined to sleep in archives are reborn in contemporary art.
