Works Inspired by Obey | Pop Art & Street Art – PopArt Gallery

Shepard Fairey, an American artist born in 1970, emerged on the art scene in the early 1990s with his famous campaign “André the Giant Has a Posse”, which later became the iconic logo Obey Giant. Initially distributed as stickers and posters pasted in public spaces, this project plays on visual saturation and the subversion of propaganda codes to question how images influence our behavior. The “Obey” universe then developed into a true graphic language: flat colors, retro patterns, militant iconography, and engaged messages. In 2008, Fairey gained worldwide fame with his “Hope” poster created for Barack Obama’s presidential campaign, becoming one of the most famous political visuals of the 21st century. Today, the Obey aesthetic is recognized as a pillar of contemporary street art, blending activism, graphic art, and popular culture.

An Iconic Style Reinterpreted

The aesthetic popularized by the Obey universe – contrasting colors, revisited propaganda codes, graphic flats, impactful messages – now influences many contemporary Pop Art artists.

These works inspired by the Obey style incorporate the visual markers that made the movement strong:

  • red/black/beige palette

  • bold typography and impactful slogans

  • flat color composition

  • militant or protest imagery

  • retro codes inspired by political posters

PopArt Gallery offers a selection of modern artists who reinterpret this aesthetic, each with their own sensibility.

Our Collection of Obey-Inspired Works

The gallery highlights original creations that capture the graphic spirit of Obey while bringing each artist’s unique vision. You will find, for example:

  • engaged pop posters, playing with the codes of revisited propaganda;

  • stylized portraits in a contrasting palette;

  • pacifist or militant messages, treated in a strong visual language;

  • contemporary screen prints inspired by American street art aesthetics.

Each work offered is an independent creation, made by contemporary artists selected for their mastery of the style and their ability to create strong and decorative pieces.

Why Choose an Obey-Inspired Work?

These works offer:

  • an immediate visual impact, typical of street art;

  • an urban and modern style that transforms an interior;

  • a strong or symbolic message, depending on the pieces;

  • an accessible alternative for fans of graphic Pop Art;

  • a true gateway to the militant aesthetic of the movement.

Perfect for adding an urban touch to a living room, office, or creative space.
