Le cadrage, resserré sur le visage, isole la star sur un fond noir profond qui fait surgir la figure comme une apparition. La chevelure, traitée en aplats de rose corail saturé, se déploie en masses graphiques et sauvages, tandis que le visage, baigné d'un rose lilas laiteux, est structuré par les contours noirs et heurtés issus de la trame photographique. Deux accents viennent électriser la composition : le vert émeraude posé sur les paupières et le rouge orangé des lèvres, seul point de chaleur du tirage.

Andy Warhol s'empare ici d'une photographie de Richard Avedon pour la soumettre à son procédé de dissociation : le trait photographique d'un côté, la couleur arbitraire de l'autre.
