An eye, and nothing else. Dr. Hide pushes the framing to the extreme here: the face has disappeared, leaving only this fragment enlarged to the point of abstraction, where the eye becomes a motif, a landscape, and a meeting point all at once. Hence the title — Contact — because everything unfolds in that second when the gaze meets ours.
The iris, glacier blue and crossed with brushstrokes, opens onto an absolutely black pupil pierced by two flashes of white. Around it, the artist unleashes a chromatic explosion without hierarchy: fuchsia pink, vivid red, cyan blue, lemon yellow, orange, and coral overlap in broad blocks and nervous strokes. The eyelid, lashes, and eyebrow are rendered in stark black, almost calligraphic, while the right side of the canvas settles into beiges and creams — a moment of relief that brings the gaze back to the center.
The composition is deliberately unstable. The colors do not depict the skin; they cover it, contradict it, and make it vibrate. One can sense the culture of the wall and the spray can in these layered planes, these crisp edges overlapping like layers of torn posters. The gesture remains visible everywhere: loaded brushstrokes, areas deliberately left raw, and unapologetic traces of reworking.
