DeLorean Back

Here, nothing is filled in. Black takes up everything, and the car exists only through what barely catches the light: a roof edge, the ridge of a hood, the grille of the rear vents, the trim of a bumper. Brick Board Builder does not build the DeLorean; it builds its light - the light that glides across brushed steel when the machine is stationary, in the dark, just before.

From a distance, the eye completes the drawing on its own and the silhouette appears, immediate and unmistakable. Up close, the line reveals itself for what it is: hundreds of white, gray, silver, and anthracite LEGO® bricks, stacked, offset, and layered, trembling from one row to the next. It is a hand-drawn line, with jolts and hesitations, and it is precisely this trembling that gives the bodywork its metallic grain.

Then there is the color, held in reserve until the final third. The rear lights flare up - deep reds, scarlets, oranges, yellows - and this sudden warmth is the painting's only event. It is enough. At the bottom left, embers escape and streak out of the frame, like a mark left on the asphalt.

Discreetly, halfway up, two dates can be read in the darkness: 1985 – 2025. Forty years. That is all the work says, and there is nothing to add.

No brick was placed according to a plan. Each element was chosen by hand from a stock of second-hand LEGO® bricks that arrived loose from all over France and were sorted one by one - some of them sourced through solidarity-based reuse thanks to the Rejoué association. Pieces without a history find one again. Against such a stripped-back background, the slightest irregularity can be seen: this work can never be recreated identically.

Neither a print, nor a reproduction, nor artificial intelligence. A constructed, numbered work delivered with its certificate of authenticity and signed on the back.
