Havana
Artist:GNelly
Against a bright, warm vermilion red background, as radiant and hot as a late afternoon in the tropics, Luxxo appears this time as a bust, shown in close-up, almost like a portrait. The signature character of GNelly, recognizable by its round silhouette and cross-shaped eyes, here large, black, and raised, faces the viewer with an immediate presence.
Its body is an explosion of color: turquoise, cobalt blue, fuchsia, sunshine yellow, orange, and cream overlap in generous blocks worked with a palette knife, punctuated by touches of black. The texture is dense and vibrant, reminiscent of the colorful, weathered façades of the Cuban capital.
As always with the artist, Luxxo carries the memories of travel. The word “Havana” is handwritten on the shoulder, accompanied by a yellow palm tree, a white star on a red background, a small heart, a daisy, and golden crosses that echo its gaze. Splashes of white paint sparkle around the silhouette and extend the energy of the gesture.
A black frame painted freehand borders the composition; GNelly’s signature appears in a black cartouche at the bottom right, while the name Luxxo runs vertically along the edge of the painting.
The highly glossy varnish gives the red a lacquered depth and makes every color vibrate. Its mirror-like surface captures the light and reflections in the room, so that the work comes alive throughout the day.
A lively, festive piece, between pop art and urban art, celebrating color, music, and the joy of living.
