The same celestial invader, a massive silhouette frozen frontally in mid-descent, now shines against a deep black background—and the contrast changes everything: the blue, brilliant against a daylight background in the lighter version, here becomes luminous on its own, as if backlit from within, a faithful echo of old cathode-ray screens.
The artist’s signature technique achieves a striking effect here: each pixel is a tile of paper cut, beveled, and hand-varnished, edged with a fine ivory line that outlines the luminous framework of the figure. The glossy varnish makes the blue squares shimmer like stained glass fragments or ice scales lit in the dark—the light clings, slides, and sparkles with the movement of the eye.
In the darkness of the background, the gray horde continues its silent descent: an armada of tone-on-tone printed invaders, row after row, whose silhouettes fade as they sink into the black.
