Chris Giio , a Spanish artist born in 1981, developed a strong passion for painting from childhood. His artistic universe draws its inspiration from Pop Art, which he revisits with an approach that is at once comical, rebellious and nonconformist. Through his works, he seeks to immerse the viewer in the world of childhood by depicting iconic characters from popular culture.
His creations skillfully blend iconic references such as Campbell's cans, Andy Warhol's Brillo boxes, Jeff Koons' Balloon Dogs , and Basquiat's crowns. These elements are combined with graffiti, expressive typography, and symbolically rich backgrounds. His characters often wear attributes that act as "armor"—leather jackets, dark glasses—and conceal faces that reveal deep emotions: sadness, fear, anxiety.
For Chris, childhood is the foundational period of every human being. He believes we live in a world where everything moves too fast. His characters, although seemingly happy, often embody a feigned joy, actually masking disorders such as depression or anxiety.
A recurring and distinctive element of his work: the crosses in his characters' eyes, symbols of inner pain—sadness, insecurities, fears. The use of bold colors, pop references, and typography are integral to his aesthetic, creating a strong and unique visual identity.
Chris develops two distinct lines in his Pop Art production:
-
“Art Toys Collection” : minimalist works with clean white backgrounds, featuring characters in leather jackets accompanied by references such as Campbell cans or Balloon Dogs , as well as a striking phrase.
-
"Basquiat Tribute Collection" : rich and intense compositions, with backgrounds saturated with graffiti, words and symbols, with a central character who captures attention.
