A female face in extreme close-up, framed so tightly that the gaze extends beyond the canvas. Dr. Hide abandons any pursuit of realism in favor of bold blocks of color and assured brushstrokes: the modeling of the face is no longer built through light, but through pure color. Sky blue appears where the shadow should fall, orange and coral warm the temples and cheekbones, yellow appears at the corner of the mouth, while broad areas of cream and white allow the composition to breathe.
The gaze provides all the tension in the work. The eyes, ringed in deep black with eyelashes rendered using a dry-brush technique, are an almost unreal blue; they fix on a point outside the frame, somewhere beyond the viewer. Below, the vermilion-red mouth — bold, saturated, almost graphic — snaps into place like a final accent. The contrast between the softness of the face and the chromatic intensity creates the ambiguity characteristic of the artist's work: at once glamorous icon and mask, seduction and distance.
The influence of Pop Art is evident, but the material tells another story. You can see the brush marks, the revisions, the vibrant edges where two colors meet without blending. Nothing is smoothed out, nothing is digital: every gesture remains legible.
