Artist:Karl Lagasse
Wall or display sculpture from Karl Lagasse’s iconic One Dollar series. The work reproduces the U.S. one-dollar bill—1995 series, number I 92754389 F, featuring George Washington’s portrait on the front and the Great Seal of the United States on the back—printed on a rigid, glossy support and then thermoformed into a supple wave that gives the bill the illusion of floating, captured in mid-motion.
The chromatic treatment is the heart of the piece: a pattern of horizontal fluorescent orange and magenta/violet stripes covers the entire surface, leaving only Washington’s portrait in silver gray, the green Treasury seal, and the engraved lettering unprinted. This play of optical bands makes the surface vibrate and fragments the reading of the bill, between pop art and geometric abstraction.
The piece is double-sided: the reverse features the Great Seal, the pyramid with the Eye of Providence, and the eagle, in the same orange and violet palette, allowing for 360° presentation on a stand.
Hand-signed in the upper right and numbered, the work belongs to a limited edition.
