Square in format, saturated with electric blue and fluorescent pink: the work reconstructs a section of an urban wall where posters have accumulated, torn and been covered over, until they became a material in their own right. The remnants of an Oasis concert poster — (What's the Story) Morning Glory? — can still be made out, its monumental letters emerging in fragments, along with scraps of advertisements in which only a few syllables remain ("KEY", "SON", "AND SHOW"). The wall speaks in fragments, like a perforated memory.
At the center, a black stencil rat stands on its hind legs, brandishing a squeegee at the end of a long handle. An immediately recognizable silhouette: this is Banksy’s iconic rodent, a figure of the outsider, the urban survivor, the one who proliferates where it is not wanted. Here, it is not tagging—it is erasing. Or cleaning. The ambiguity of the gesture is what gives the image its appeal: is the rat the vandal or the maintenance worker, the one who covers up or the one who reveals?
Lasveguix explores this tension between poster-stripping in the manner of the affichistes and contemporary stencil art. The photograph of the wall, the torn-away layers, and the pink and violet drips form an almost abstract background against which the black figure stands out with the crispness of a cut-out silhouette. The result is both a document—a wall, a moment, a city—and a wholly controlled composition.
What plays out beneath the surface is the question of the urban palimpsest. Advertising, music, graffiti, institutional erasure—all overlap on the same surface, and no one has the final word. The rat remains.
