Monika Spiewak

Born in 1974, Monika Spiewak lives and works in Poland, where she develops an abstract painting practice in acrylic, consisting exclusively of one-of-a-kind works. A graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, she has taken part in numerous exhibitions and art biennials in Europe and the United States. 

A luminous, gestural abstraction. Trained at one of Central Europe’s most demanding institutions, Monika Spiewak has chosen a resolutely non-figurative path, where color and gesture take precedence over the subject. Her paintings are built through layers and contrasts: broad areas of color, thick textures, drips, and bursts of color that give each canvas its own rhythm. She works in both acrylic and oil, often on panoramic or XXL formats—surfaces that give gesture plenty of room.

A commitment to the one-of-a-kind object. The artist embraces a wholly manual practice and rejects reproduction: each of her canvases is an original, unique work produced in her studio, entirely painted by hand, signed by her, stretched on a frame with painted edges, ready to hang, and accompanied by a handwritten certificate of authenticity. This choice—no giclée, no printing—is central to the way she conceives the relationship between the work and its collector. 

International reach. Her works are now held in private collections around the world: Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, France, Austria, Denmark, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Singapore, and the United States. This circulation reflects an abstraction that travels well, capable of engaging with very different contemporary interiors without losing any of its strength.
