With Mrs Kloud, Hugo Brun gives a literal, humorous twist to the expression “having your head in the clouds.” A young woman stands upright, arms at her sides, on a mirrored base. Where you would expect to see a face, a large, round, generously shaped sky-blue cloud completely replaces her head. The figure has no features or gaze, yet her whole posture speaks of daydreaming. Faceless, Mrs Kloud becomes a universal figure that anyone can relate to: someone who drifts away, retreats into herself, and prefers her dreams to the noise of the world.
The sculpture has the bold energy of pop art. The deep royal-blue top, acid-green A-line skirt, and fuchsia-pink ankle boots dotted with small white motifs create a bright, cheerful palette, almost like a toy. The cloud, meanwhile, is a very soft powder blue, flecked with fine glitter that catches the light like raindrops or flashes of starlight.
