Avec Cupído, Guido Zappoli fige l’instant précis où l’amour surgit et change le cours des choses. Une diagonale invisible coupe la toile d’un gris anthracite. Le long de cette diagonale, un banc serré de poissons en cuir noir brillant monte en rangs réguliers du coin inférieur gauche vers le coin supérieur droit. Ce flot évoque la neutralité du quotidien et le mouvement collectif qui avance sans se poser de questions.
Au centre, le banc rencontre la force de l’amour et se transforme. Les poissons quittent la diagonale et se remettent à l’horizontale. Leur noir laisse place à la couleur, et ils s’organisent pour dessiner un grand cœur. Le dégradé va du rose poudré, en haut, au rouge corail intense, à la pointe. On a l’impression que la couleur s’embrase peu à peu, comme une émotion qui grandit jusqu’à tout envahir.
Toute l’œuvre repose sur les contrastes de la matière. Le cuir noir verni des poissons du quotidien accroche la lumière et renvoie des reflets profonds. Le cuir mat et velouté du cœur, lui, absorbe la lumière et donne une douceur presque charnelle. Chaque poisson est découpé à l’emporte-pièce puis appliqué à la main, avec une précision millimétrique. Le motif du banc, signature de ZapArt, sert ici une idée simple et universelle : un élan d’énergie émotionnelle suffit à submerger un groupe et à lui donner une nouvelle direction.
Le titre, en espagnol comme toutes les œuvres de l’artiste, rend hommage à son ami Adriano et à ses trente années passées au Mexique. Il fait référence à Cupidon, le dieu dont la flèche réveille l’amour.
