Starboy - Daft Punk marble finish

Forged metal, antique green marble-like patina, handcrafted by Mitch Richmond.

This helmet sculpture, hand-shaped from metal, is directly inspired by the visual iconography of the French electronic duo Daft Punk. The rounded shape of the skull, the frontal visor band, and the circular discs placed on the temples immediately recall the robot-helmet aesthetic popularized by the group — while offering a personal and sculptural reinterpretation of the motif.

The metal was hammered, visible in the multiple flat facets composing the jaw and lower face, contrasting with the organic roundness of the top of the skull. Each metal panel was welded and then hand-polished, revealing fine joining lines that structure the piece like architectural sutures.

The finish is the signature element of this work: a hand-applied patina gives the metal the appearance of veined marble — a deep green, almost malachite, crossed with dark marbling and lighter areas that catch the light. This material effect, achieved through meticulous surface treatment, gives the object a mineral and timeless look, as if the piece had traveled through the ages while retaining a resolutely futuristic silhouette.

The two circular openings on the sides, treated with concentric relief, evoke integrated sensors or speakers, reinforcing the robotic dimension of the helmet without ever betraying its inspiration. The back of the skull, perfectly smooth and spherical, echoes a hidden human face — absence and presence blending in this featureless head.

Placed on light fabric, the sculpture presents itself as a contemporary bust: at the crossroads of industrial design, electronic pop culture, and classical sculpture, in the tradition of the bust portrait reinvented by the codes of electronic music.
