Positano

A bold, vibrant pink, like the bougainvillea cascading down the terraces of the Amalfi Coast. Against this backdrop, Luxxo appears in a close-cropped, front-facing bust portrait. The signature character of GNelly, with its round silhouette and cross-shaped eyes, has stopped off in southern Italy.

Here, the setting becomes part of the character. The pink background spreads across the face, as if Luxxo were taking on the colors of the place. A patch of white surrounds the left eye, marked with a thick black cross and topped with three eyelashes. The right eye answers with a white cross set directly against the pink. Lower down, a turquoise area, a black spot, and a violet shadow complete the contours of the head.

The body belongs to yellow. A bright lemon yellow, evoking the citrus fruits of the coast, streaked with white, turquoise, orange, violet, and deep blue. The paint is applied with a palette knife in long, overlapping vertical strokes, like the village houses stacked along the cliffside. The texture is thick and generous, preserving the trace of every gesture.

As always, Luxxo wears its memories. The word “Positano” is handwritten on one shoulder, and “Luxxo” on the other. Orange-outlined daisies bloom across the torso, small triangles and doodled loops accent the arms, and fine splashes of color escape the silhouette. A freehand-painted black frame borders the composition, Luxxo’s name runs vertically along the right edge, and GNelly’s signature appears in a black cartouche at the bottom right.

Automotive clear coat, borrowed from the world of cars, covers the entire piece in a taut, mirror-like finish. It gives the pink a lacquered gleam, almost like an Italian car body, while reflections from the room play across the surface throughout the day.

A unique, cheerful, sun-soaked piece, somewhere between pop art and urban art, signed and delivered with its certificate of authenticity.
