The title says it plainly: oculus, the eye. It is the subject, and everything else exists only to lead us to it. The work does not show a giraffe; it shows a gaze—that of an animal framed so closely that the animal itself disap...

BBB, the artist who creates LEGO brick paintings

Grégory, aka BBB — Brick Board Builder — is a French artist who does not paint: he builds. Trained in interior architecture and design, he has made the LEGO® brick a fully fledged studio material, transforming a universal, almost childlike object into his own visual language: pop pixel art.

His pictures reveal themselves in two stages. From a distance, a familiar image emerges — a cinema icon, a musical figure, a hero of popular culture, a monument. Up close, the image breaks down into a relief of colors, shadows, and hidden details that challenge perception. It is an art of patience and observation, in which the constraints of the module drive the composition: “Randomness becomes precision.”

Each work is assembled by hand, brick by brick, without a predefined plan. This refusal to follow a blueprint gives every piece its own story and identity: none can be reproduced, and none is a print. The bricks, all sourced through reuse, arrive in bulk from across France through resale networks and the solidarity-based reuse organization Rejoué. They are cleaned and then sorted one by one before reaching the studio — an approach in which the circular economy is not an added selling point but the very condition of the work: it is better to see these bricks create emotion than end up in the oceans.

BBB’s works are numbered and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. They are exhibited in galleries — Origine Home in Le Touquet, Galerie 337 in Geneva and Megève, La Street Galerie, and Artsper — and created to order for collectors, private individuals, and companies, based on an image, a theme, or a visual identity.

BBB does not play with LEGO®. He plays with complexity, with our perception, and with the pleasure of making the unexpected appear.
